So where is the Apple iPhone 4G/5... pure speculation

It is June of 2011, with no new Apple iPhone in site. Every year, since 2007 Apple has released a new iPhone in June or July of each year. Not much would have to be done to come out with a new successful iPhone. There really is no need to improve on the Retina Display yet. The 3.5-inch 960 x 640 pixel resolution display still has a much greater pixel density than the new qHD (960 x 540) displays found on the Motorola Atrix and the HTC Sensation. All you need to do is pop in the same 900 MHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, Apple A5 chipset yuo have on the iPad 2, up the RAM to 768MB, a 4G radio and slot in a 8MP Sony Exmor camera and you have a new iPhone ready to take on the best of what Android has to offer. Easy.

Needs more miniaturization. But maybe it is not that easy. Apple has selected a one size fits all policy with a now mid-sized case which started at 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm with the original iPhone and went down to slimmer and trimmer 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm case for the iPhone 4. According to Apple, that is the correct size for a phone.

In case no one has noticed, all of the new dual core monsters are found in large phones with 4 to 4.3-inch displays. The smallest of the new dual core offerings is the Samsung Galaxy S II at 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm has a much more massive frame than the iPhone 4.

Maybe the delay of the new iPhone is because it will take some more work to put a dual core processor in a mid-sized frame. So far, no manufacturer has done that yet. Having to add more memory and cram in a 8MP camera may add to the problem.

Supply problems. Apple is having a hard enough time supplying demand for its new iPad 2. It may not be the best time to launch a new iPhone. The iPhone is well entrenched and a few more months delay in the release in a new model is not likely to dent it market share. Apps that take advantage of two cores are still few in number.

On the other hand it has a virtual lock on the tablet market. But a iPad 2 supply shortage could give its Android and BlackBerry competition a chance to make some headway.

Like I said, it is all speculation, but for one reason or other Apple has opted to disappoint us this June.
