Guide on How to Install a leaked Honeycomb on HTC flyer

From a news month ago that HTC spokesperson has confirmed the Honeycomb upgrade for HTC flyer will be made available as soon as possible after it releases. It's been little while ago since that report claimed. But now, you might probably already know, The Beta version of the Honeycomb for HTC Flyer has leaked a few days ago. Advance users already tested the said ROM even it's been somewhat very complicated to install. The process reportedly tested and works on a Euro WWE 32 GB 3G Flyer and may also work with other variants but unconfirmly works well so far.

Here's a few screenshoots just for a brief details of what have we got to the the HTC Flyer Honeycomb update.
HTC Flyer Honeycomb Firmware SS2

Important Things Needs to Consider Before Following this Guide:
* This process is recommended for experts only!
* This guide is only tested on a Euro WWE 32GB 3G Flyer - it may work on other configurations, but this is untested (i'd advise reading the topic to see if anyone has experimented with your configuration!)
* Anything you do from this point forward is at your own risk - my Flyer works and i've resurrected a couple of others, but I take no responsibility if it all goes horribly wrong. You COULD brick your tablet
* Do NOT under any circumstances run the RUU in it's entirety nor 'fastboot flash rom.zip' - this will make irreversible changes that you don't want!
* Be careful if you flash any RUUs or do anything that could revert you to S-ON on a broken system - this could leave you stuck
The installing process needs to ensure that you have an RUU that matches the ROM version of your HTC Flyer just a back up if anything went wrong and can roll back the process. You can follow the complete step by step installation guides from Paul of Android Modaco here on this thread.

Acer ICONIA TAB A500 & A501 are very competively priced for the 32GB models

The Acer ICONIA TAB A500 is a 10.1-inch (800 x 280) Google Android Honeycomb tablet with a dual core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, ULP GeForce GPU on a Tegra 2 T20 chipset. Priced at 21,900 for the WiFi only 16GB model, it is not very interesting as against the Php23,900 Apple iPad 2. The price difference of 2K probably wont be enough to swing to many buyers.

Note: Some shops like PCCorner have the 16GB version price much lower at Php19,500 making it 4.4K cheaper than the entry level iPad 2.

The Acer ICONIA TAB A500 does have move interesting storage options, with a MicroSD card slot which will allow you to expand storage to 48GB and a full sized USB 2.0 port for Flash Drives.

Moving up the line, to the WiFi only 32GB ICONIA TAB A500, the price gets more interesting. At Php23,900 it is a lot cheaper than the 32GB WiFi only Apple iPad 2 priced at Php28,990. That is now all of 6K less, and you can expand storage to 64GB with the MicroSD card slow, plus you still have the full sized USB 2.0 port.

But Acer has just released its most interesting offering, the ICONIA TAB A501, with 32GB of internal storage plus WiFi and 3G connectivity. At Php28,900 ICONIA TAB A501 is cheaper than the cheapest 3G version of the iPad 2 (16GB) which is at 30,990. The 32GB 3G iPad 2 comes in at Php35,990, which is all of 7K more.

Windows Phone 7 Mango is here. So what is Nokia doing?

In February 2011, Nokia announced that it was moving its high end smartphones over to the Windows Phone 7 platform, and would be phasing out Symbian over two years.  It also ended MeeGo development, or so we thought.

Since than, it has been more than six months released a Symbian Anna X7 and a MeeGo powered N9. Nokia has announced Nokia N500 with a 1GHz processor running Symbian Anna, the Nokia N600 and N700, also running 1GHz processors but this time sporting Symbian Belle. Nokia also leaked its new flagship the N801.

It looks like Nokia has been doing anything but getting a Windows Phone 7 device out in time for the Mango release.  Worse, Windows Phone 7 Mango has gotten little support from the industry so far.

Fujitsu's WP7 Mango device

Fujitsu came out with as Windows Phone 7 Mango slated for Japan only. HTC has stepped to the plate and greeted Mango with the massively impressive Titan and the more conventional Radar. But these devices won't be available by October, and they will initially be made available in Europe only.

Windows almighty - HTC's 4.7-inch WP7 Mango Titan

Samsung just went through IFA 2011 without a mention of a Windows Phone 7 Mango device, though there are rumors of a Galaxy Omnia W. The "W" in its name tells us that is will be a single core device with a 3.7-inch screen. Nothing much to get too excited about. LG has not stepped up to the Windows Phone 7 Mango plate so far. Acer has its W14, but this looks like a mid-level device.

With the next iPhone hitting the market in a month or so, and Google Android Ice Cream platforms coming out soon after that, I feel like Nokia missed the best window of opportunity to fire up a killer Mango device.

The post-PC era: The harbinger of death is mobile internet

Some people really love their PC's and strenuously object to its demise. The PC is not going to die, but it is going never going to occupy the same place it has in our live for the better part of two decades.

Some people really love their PC's. They tweak, overclock and customize them. But most people did not have a love affair with the PC. It was the Internet they loved, and the PC was their conduit to that. The end of the PC era was not brought about by the smartphone or the tablet, but by mobile internet.

There was a time when the PC was the only way to browse the web and the wealth of information in it, communicate with people in far away at a low cost via email, instant messengers, and later VOIP and Social Networking, play games online and view the growing library of online multimedia content. Stuck to a dial up modem or a cable connection, the PC was the best way to interact wit the Net.

Lenovo IdeaCentre. The desktop is evolving but not enough to keep it from leaving your homes and going back to the office.
But now, internet is mobile, first through WiFi hot spots and now to 3G, a device which sits on a desk the whole day is or even something as portable as a laptop, but which still has to used on a desk, loosing relevance in many applications.

The Internet has gone from desktop to your pocket.
Communication is best when it is done in real time. Email, instant messaging, VOIP and Social Networking have taken their proper place beside voice calls and SMS on your smartphone. The smartphone being the smallest and handiest computer we have, is the one we are most likely to have with us the whole day, so it makes sense that all forms of communication will center around it. The smartphone can do other things too. You can browse the web, do 3D gaming and a lot of neat stuff. In the end, if you had to pick only one "computer" I think we would pick the smartphone over the tablet, laptop, desktop and console.

Mobile web browsing, mobile access of multimedia content and mobile gaming are going to the tablet. PC advocates point out that the tablet lacks power for true gaming. Right now it looks like tablet power is doubling every year.

Kinect for Xbox by Microsoft.  There is just no way a PC can compete with new interactive gaming. It is a lot healthier for your kids too. So get rid of the keyboard and mouse, and if you can't get them unto the football field, at least you can get them back on their feet.
When you go back to your own home, this are not looking better for the PC either. For gaming at home, the console which once seemed to have died a permanent death in the late 80's, began clawing back in the mid-90's, and these dedicated gaming devices (which now offer a whole lot of additional feature too) will continue to take more and more of the gaming market from PC's will continue to do so. With the additional pressure from the tablet, and the new interactive gaming technologies, PC gaming is doomed, and it really is just a matter of time.

Sony Internet TV. 1080p really looks best on you 32-inch++ LCD TV.
Internet at home, well it will become the province of our TV's. We will go to  YouTube and search Wikipedia in the same way we tune in to CNN.

So what happens to our desktops and laptops. The PC was for a time a jack-of-all trades. Like all in one tools, it can do everything but not as good as a dedicated device. PC's will go back to what they were designed for in the first place, as office machines. There are still people who need computers for work. So the PC is not dying anytime in the foreseeable future. But is is definitely out of the communications and entertainment business.

LG Optimus 3D P920 - Handheld 3D, no glasses required

Techie.com.ph reports that the LG Optimus 3D P920 is here, and it is priced at a reasonable Php29,900. This puts it at just 2K over the suggested retail price of Php27,900 for the LG Optimux 2x.

The LG Optimus 3D is a Google Android phone with a large 4.3-inch 480 x 800 resolution 3D display. At the back, it has dual 5MP camera which can do 1080p video capture in 3D. The Optimus 2x is powered by a dual core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and PowerVR SGX540 GPU with 512MB of RAM. While this is far from enough power to dethrone the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S II as the fastest smartphone in the world,  this Cortex-A9 and power VR combo is a bit more powerful package than the Nvidia Tegra 2 based system on the LG Optimus One, and the Qualcomm package on the HTC Sensation.

Being the second fastest phone in the country with 3D gadgetry at Php29,900 is not a bad place to be. And if the 3D gadgetry is important to you, GSMArena recommends that this is the one to get.
As you can see, the LG Optimus 3D is much better for creating and consuming 3D content than the HTC's EVO 3D, while the EVO 3D is better at doing your regular smartphone heavy lifting. If the 3D stuff is the thing of most importance, then you have no choice but the Optimus 3D. On the other side, if you want it just as another cool feature on your phone - then you should go for the EVO 3D. And honestly, the coolness of the 3D effect wears off rather fast once you get used to it. Not to mention there aren’t much ways to share your 3D images and videos online.

Almost, forgot, glasses not required.

Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 Gitaxian ROM Gingerbread based CUSTOM ROM

Here's another coolest custom ROM for Samsung galaxy S SL i9003 developed by Namalessat XDA-developer. This ROM reportedly work perfect as smooth as you never had before and been used by a lot Samsung Galaxy SL users over Europe.

Here's a word from the creator of this ROM:

Hello everyone!
Sorry if I have not yet released the new version of my ROM, but unfortunately I have to give my time to me and my family.

With this message I want to ask all possible help from you. Unfortunately I live alone and I also have to make the home so I kindly ask you to help me.

I am happy to help the people who owns the phone I9003, but I request to you that you have more time to compensate me for my shortcomings.

First of all thank those who these days are helping those who want to use my ROM in your phone, helping to install and remove the doubts that before installing my ROMs.

I want to change the name of the ROM because I do not hear me, but I think it of you all. You who believe in my potential. You who trust my work. You try that with your time and give suggestions. I chose the new name and I think you will like.

Gitaxian ROM

The name comes from the Gypsies, which means "people" in Latin (me being Italian I like the Latin) and I think it is a ROM based entirely on your thoughts and suggestions I think it's the right name for this ROM.

ROM is now seen that the people I ask you to help me in this huge project that requires a lot of time and energy.

I'm not good at English because I studied until the eighth grade so I do not have the knowledge to answer all your questions. Google Translator helps me but not enough. There are people, friends who help me by giving support and explanations and I would like to raise awareness of this process because it requires time and knowledge of life on Android phones. Each of you can help with guides, previews, tips and helping others.
One thing that gave me the sadness is little collaboration between developers of ROM. I gave my support to two ROM which I could make a difference, but unfortunately everyone pulls water to his mill. I think you phone users, others think their project. I am sad for what happened and having no support from them asking for help to you who have interest in owning a phone that works well and works the way you want.

I apologize again to dwell on but I am convinced that many of you will understand my state of mind and I will support this mission. Making our better phone!

I can not waste time guides, images and more, I need to concentrate on what you do not know. I therefore ask you to take care of what you can do, help others, give advice and guides to use for your ROM.

I preferred to give space to my thoughts and what I want to convey to you all because I think it is more important than the relationship between the developer and the user that the instrument.

We can try with this guide:

1. Install complete firmware XXKPE.
2. Install my rom in PDA section of ODIN. No need CFRoot, integrate in my rom.
3. When finish my rom go device in Recovery, you need to delete dalvik cache and cache (not need factory reset).

Using 1.3 since yesterday morning and everything works great. Battery life is very good with data connection always up (way more than a day of use).

  • Wifi and gps work perfect

  • camera works fine

  • the more i see the theme the more i love it

  • needed to push gmail to system apps to make it work, simply installed from market gmaps (i suggest to keep it in ROM most of users need them)

  • did not tweak anything about graphics performance

  • converted to ext4 (i suggest to make it default  )

  • pushed new market to system apps as also social hub and im (do not push email.apk from sgsII it FC)

  • installed Vlingo, now from market (it's the free version of the branded voicecommand of sgsII) and works great

  • installed flash player (i suggest keeping it by default) but sometime when i browse with firefox and even maxthon, it is not recognized it and they warn that a plugin is needed
